e-Medine
e-Medine is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the promotion of the political and cultural convergence of the Mediterranean countries in the European motherland with the idea of an European citizenship. It aims to make people understand the importance of a European identity and integration in all its social, economic and cultural aspects both to individual citizens and to social actors, through awareness raising campaigns, round tables and the dissemination of best practices.
e-Medine operates easily across Europe, from Iceland to Turkey, from Lithuania to Portugal.
In these years, thanks to its credibility, e-Medine has been able to attract grants from several European programmes, mainly based on raise awareness about the importance of EU citizenship, to reach a political and cultural convergence of the Mediterranean countries in the European motherland, so to run over cultural differences. In order to achieve its goals, the organisation promotes the adoption of serious games and other digital tools and methodologies that have already shown their effectiveness in the field of people’s cultural education.
Its specific goals include, but are not limited to:
- Promotion of a culture focused on European citizenship and on the integration into a common European identity;
- Support citizens and involve policy makers in the formulation of concrete solutions to problems of public interest;
- Diffusion of good practices to fight corruption and unemployment;
- Transfer of innovative ideas aiming at the sustainable development of the territory and at citizens' empowerment;
- Enhancement of digital integration.
Among the general goals pursued by e-Medine, it is worth emphasising as well the development and implementation of innovative formal and non-formal online training programmes and the organisation of round tables, meetings and events to encourage public discussion and strengthen social engagement.
In fact, thanks to its IT department, e-Medine aims to introduce an innovative ICT learning approach to its projects through the development of collaborative & learning platforms, containing interactive online courses, online webinars, mini games, animations, cartoons, and everything related with edutainment techniques (education through entertainment as innovative pedagogical approach).
e-Medine can, also, give its contribution to the Dissemination and Communication of the projects in which is involved (development of the project website and visual identity), thanks to its Marketing and Communication Office.
e-Medine operates in Sicily, the largest Italian region, currently having very difficult social situation and large social disparities, high level of unemployment both among young people and adults. The socio-economic situation that our region is experiencing imposes the necessity to rethink how to approach unemployed people focusing on issues such as innovation, creativity, business and volunteering. People must be able to reinvent themselves, get involved, do not perceive the crisis as a threat but as an opportunity for growth.
